The history of Sumber Maron tourism begins with a young man named Maron who has magical powers. Maron lived in the village and was known for his ability to control the flow of water. He believed that water is the source of life that must be protected and respected. One day, he heard that his village was facing a severe drought and the land was dry, the plants were wilting, and then the people were running out of water. Maron decided to use his powers to find a new water source. After a long journey, he finally found a gushing spring in the middle of the forest. He believed that this was the water source that would save his village. Maron then built a small pool around the spring to share the miracle of water with everyone. Until now, the legend of Maron and Sumber Maron continues to be told and attracts local tourists who want to visit the place. Maron's story of fighting to save his village and protect the water source has inspired many people.

The visitors to this tourist attraction are a blessing for local people. The community's economy is slightly supported because they can sell anything that can be sold, one of which is food and drinks. Around the tourist sites, starting from the parking area to the river edges, we will find several food stalls.

The culinary delights sold typical Javanese dishes such as meatballs, soup ( soto ), PopMie, Indomie, and traditional drinks like wedang uwuh, and so on. So when we starving, there is no need to worry because we can immediately fill up our tummy at these food stalls. There is also a place of worship in the form of a prayer room, a large parking lot, changing rooms, and luggage storage lockers.

If you are tired of swimming, then you can relax while dipping your feet in the cold spring water. This relaxing activity is perfect for you to do while eating snacks. However, don't forget to maintain cleanliness.

Playing at the Waterfall

Like other tourist attractions with unique attractions, this place's main attraction is the location of Grojogan Sewu, a waterfall about five meters high. The flow of the waterfall comes from Sumber Maron and is divided into several waterfalls that spread out and pass through large rocks. Visitors can swim or simply enjoy the flow of water while sitting on the rocks.

In addition to being a source of lighting for 4 villages around the tourist area, the existence of  PLTMH Sumber Maron is also often used as an educational tourism object by tourists. They can see and gain knowledge about micro hydropower technology. Since its construction in 2005, the PLTMH has become a source of electricity for Sukosari, Karangsuko, Panggungrejo, and Gondanglegi Kulon villages.

Location & Route to Sumber Maron Malang


Sumber Maron is located in Dusun Adiluwih, Karangsuko, Pagelaran district, Malang. It's about 26 kilometers south of downtown Malang and takes around an hour to get there. Visitors can get there by bus, minivan, or their own car. They can also use ride-hailing apps like Gojek or Grab. Just use Google Maps to find the best and fastest route. If visitors prefer,  they can rent a driver or use a travel agency to take you there. To support sustainable tourism, it is reccommended to choose public transportations where possible, as this reduces carbon emmisions and traffic in the countryside.
